A few years ago most business owners were trying to achieve work-life balance. I haven't heard an entrepreneur utter that phrase in years. They're too busy working to even consider balance. Despite our collective "give up" on this goal, there's a new trend - work/strategic balance.

You can't be strategic if you're too busy "working". Being strategic is the high impact work you do while working "on" your business as compared to the low impact work while working "in" the business. Delegate the low impact activities, the work others could and should be doing, don't trade your time for money. Work strategic balance is about freeing up your time from low impact activities and shift more of your time to work on the strategic high impact activities that move your company forward.
Challenge : Keep track of where you spend time in your business for 3-4 weeks. Simple 15 minute increments. This is not about beating you up over coffee breaks or spending time on-line; it is however about understanding where your time is spent. Where, which departments and on what type of activities. A good way to identify high impact strategic activities is that in 3-5 years you look back and say "yes, I am so glad I spent time on those years ago", that's strategic. If you can't say that or don't even remember what the activity was that's low impact busyness which identifies you, the business leader as a bottleneck to growth.
